Explorer Post 324
Since the program's inception in the early 1990’s, many of the programs own explorers have been successful in attaining full time fire service positions with many career fire departments throughout the state. Our goal is to provide the experience and training for someone to leave our program and be successful at a formal fire academy.
The post currently operates at 40 active explorers. New participants who complete the recruitment process are placed on an eligibility list to fill vacancies as they occur.
We cover 13 training modules which provides a overview of the basic subjects of firefighting and emergency operations. Once initial training is complete, explorers can test to become capable of performing limited field operations alongside on-duty crews.
While in the program, all explorers are required to maintain a good attendance record, criminal free background and a minimum of a 2.0 GPA in school.
Our recruitment process typically takes place once a year in January. Interested candidates are welcome to visit and watch during one of our bi-weekly meetings to see if it is a program they would like to be a part of. Candidates must be successful in completing a physical agility test, interview process, and background investigation. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list to fill vacancies in the post as they occur.
Accepted Explorers will need to purchase and provide a uniform and approved safety boots. There is also an annual participation fee of $33. All other protective equipment will be provided on loan to each member.
